Osvaldo Carbuccia
Born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic in March 1957, he became interested in photography in the ‘80s and won its first honorable mention at a
local contest in 1980. In 1982 he joined FOTOGRUPO, a local photo club and participated in numerous collective expos. His pictures have been
exhibited in various international photo salons over the world. He won three prizes each year in the last three years of the “Concurso Internacional
de Casa de Teatro”.
His pictures are featured on the cover and inside the book “Danza de las llamaradas” (Avelino Stanley, 2000, ISBN 99934-0-228-1).
He also used his photographs on the cover of the books “Elegías Bucólicas” (Ángel Mario Carbuccia, 2000, ISBN 99934-0-114-5), “El seno de lo prohibido”
(Miguel Phipps, 2002, ISBN 99934-61-34-2), “Conmociones del entorno amoroso” (Benito Nieves, 2003) and “Las hogueras del infierno” (Miguel Phipps, 2003,
ISBN 99934-61-83-0). Twenty of his photos are permanently exhibited in large format (6’x8’) at Plaza Zaglul, a department store in San Pedro de Macorís.
His main photographic motivation is the country where he lives: a land full of proud working people; men, women and children, sugar cane fields and
voices that speak to us through their chants and laments, their habits and callous hands for work. This is also a land blessed by God and nature, with
endless summers; crystal clear waters and skies; warm and multicolor sunsets. Osvaldo is open to all photo themes. He goes from landscapes to people,
from still life to nudes, from street scenes to studio portraits.
“The world is so vast to be limited by the theme. I can't avoid shooting a fiery red
sunset in San Pedro de Macorís or the delicacy of a Murex Pecten shell”, said Osvaldo.
